This VR photo was taken at the east end of the Columbia River Gorge, where the river cuts through the Cascade mountain range. The viewpoint is on I-84, just west of Hood River. One can hike to the top of the point where the view is probably even more spectacular, but this was taken from a ledge just a short scramble above the parking lot (and the normal viewing area). This picture was used as my “Best of 2010” entry on the Worldwide Panorama.

The Columbia River Gorge is a spectacular area full of waterfalls, hiking trails, museums, and many other points of interest. It bridges the very green west sides of Oregon and Washington, with the dry eastern sides. One of the most spectacular waterfalls in the Gorge is Multnomah Falls, the subject of an earlier post.
