Wings of Wonder Greenhouse

by Jim

Wings of Wonder GreenhouseThis panorama was taken in the Wings of Wonder greenhouse, located in Buena Vista, Oregon. It is a wonderful exhibition of tropical butterflies. They fly around freely in the greenhouse, along with a handful of birds, among lush foliage and beautiful flowers.

Butterflies are the main attraction at Wings of Wonder, but they also have a collection of reptiles, an outdoor garden, and a butterfly breeding facility. It’s a great place for schools to visit for educational purposes, or anyone just for fun.

This VR turned out to be a lot more challenging than expected because of the range of lighting, both brightness and color temperature. Also, the source images were taken at ISO 1600, resulting in a fair amount of noise. Lastly, few butterflies came near enough to the camera to result in large images. As a result, although there are a number in the picture, they’re tough to find.

The technical issues can be compensated for, now that I understand things better, but the fix for catching more close-up butterflies is probably just to hang out for a longer time, and take a lot of images to composite into the overall one. Maybe next time.
